Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) and our partner organizations participated in the open letter to the governments of France, Germany and Spain, shareholders of Airbus SE, calling for Airbus to use its leverage to stop AVIC’s continued transfers of aircraft and associated equipment to the criminal Myanmar military junta, or divest.

On October 16, 2024, Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) and its partners organized a World Food Day Awareness Sharing Campaign, attended by 22 participants, including survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV). The event focused on raising awareness of food security issues in Myanmar, particularly in conflict-affected and economically unstable regions. 

Participants discussed their personal experiences, highlighting the significance of home gardens for survival, especially in prisons and border areas where access to affordable food is limited. They emphasized the critical role of small gardens and community support in sustaining families during times of crisis. The discussions also addressed the challenges of rising food prices and the lack of access to basic goods, while advocating for stronger local and international efforts to enhance food security through sustainable agricultural practices and community-based initiatives.

On June 20, 2024, from 6 PM to 7 PM (BKK time), a World Refugee Day campaign and awareness session was conducted by the Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) and its partners with the support of New Myanmar Foundation (NMF), attracting 21 participants. The session aimed to raise awareness about the plight of refugees, with a specific focus on Myanmar refugees before and after the recent coup, promote empathy and support, and facilitate collaboration among participants. Activities included information on World Refugee Day, discussions on the challenges faced by Myanmar refugees, and exploration of ways Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) can assist refugees. 

Participants engaged actively in discussions, demonstrating interest and willingness to learn more. The session successfully increased understanding of refugee issues, fostered empathy, and promoted collaboration among attendees, with discussions likely providing valuable insights and encouraging further support for refugees through CSO and NGO efforts.

On May 29 to May 31, 2024, the Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) conducted a human rights training session in Myanmar with the New Myanmar Foundation (NMF), aimed at empowering participants with knowledge and fostering a culture of respect for human rights. The training, attended by 15 participants, covered a comprehensive range of human rights topics tailored to the Myanmar context. The curriculum included an exploration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. Participants were equipped with knowledge of mechanisms to address human rights violations. 

The training employed interactive presentations, group discussions, and case studies, providing participants with practical tools to identify and navigate human rights issues. The event successfully enhanced participants’ understanding of their fundamental rights and the mechanisms available to uphold them. Moving forward, the MHRN plans to continue organizing human rights training sessions across Magway Region, collaborating with participants to develop action plans for promoting human rights awareness and advocating for positive change within their communities. By equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools to protect their rights, the MHRN training program aims to make a lasting impact on Magway Region, promoting a society where human rights are respected and upheld.

On May 1, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, the Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) and its partners hosted an online awareness campaign in recognition of International Labor Day with the support of  New Myanmar Foundation (NMF). The event began with an introduction explaining the history and significance of International Labor Day, emphasizing the importance of workers’ rights. Participants then engaged in a discussion about various labor rights, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and access to benefits, with a focus on challenges faced by women in the workforce. 

In a show of solidarity, attendees were encouraged to rename and update their profiles to include messages or symbols related to International Labor Day or specific labor rights causes. The campaign successfully raised awareness about International Labor Day, fostered knowledge sharing on labor rights, and highlighted areas for further advocacy, particularly for women workers.

On April 17, 2024, Myanmar New Year’s Day, the Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) and its Partners with the support of  New Myanmar Foundation , participated in a paper airstrike facebook campaign as a protest against the military junta’s acts of aerial aggression, which constitute war crimes. We stood in defiance of the military junta’s atrocities against our people, mobilizing the collective power of both domestic and international communities through the symbolic gesture of paper airplanes. Participants folded various paper airplanes, released them into the air, wrote prayers on them, and displayed them prominently. This act symbolized our collective prayers and hopes for peace. 

We expressed solidarity with those who have suffered the loss of loved ones and homes due to these airstrikes. Additionally, we denounced the nations and organizations that facilitate the transport and sale of fuel, enabling the military junta to continue its aerial assaults. This campaign was a powerful demonstration of unity and resistance, amplifying our call for justice and an end to the military junta’s aerial aggression.

On April 4, 2024, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN)and its partners organised the International Day of Mine Awareness Campaign with the support of  New Myanmar Foundation, attended by 16 partner members. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about mine history and importance, advocating for global landmine eradication. The agenda included an introduction, an overview of mine awareness history, a discussion on the importance of mine awareness, and a video presentation highlighting the impact of landmines. Participants engaged in an interactive session, changing their profile names to show solidarity. 

The event concluded with a call to action, urging participants to spread awareness and support mine clearance efforts. The campaign educated and motivated attendees to pledge their support for a landmine-free world, fostering solidarity and commitment to the cause.

On March 19, 2024, Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN)  and its partners conducted a pivotal online campaign with the support of  New Myanmar Foundation, gathered 25 participants from diverse backgrounds , united in their commitment to challenge Myanmar’s conscription laws and advocate for the banning of SAC’s jet fuel. The session began with a compelling overview emphasizing the power of public campaigns in effecting transformative change through advocacy and community mobilization. Detailed presentations highlighted the urgency of banning military jet fuel to halt devastating civilian casualties caused by air attacks. 

Simultaneously, participants engaged in discussions regarding the petition against forced conscription, highlighting its impact on human rights. The campaign concluded with a strong commitment to ongoing advocacy and collaborative efforts aimed at sustaining momentum and achieving tangible results in safeguarding individual freedoms and promoting justice in Myanmar.

On March 8, 2024, Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) and its partners, with the support of the New Myanmar Foundation, organised a dynamic online campaign in honor of International Women’s Day, themed “Inspire Inclusion,” to celebrate and uplift women’s voices globally. The campaign resonated deeply with participants, highlighting empowerment and solidarity. The event commenced with a speech commemorating the day and recognizing women’s pivotal roles, particularly those in the Nway Oo revolution in Myanmar, applauding their courage and resilience. 

Participants engaged actively by modifying their Zoom profiles to reflect the campaign’s theme, symbolizing solidarity with women worldwide and commitment to gender equality. The event’s impact was profound, fostering a collective determination to advocate for a society where every woman’s voice is heard and valued. As we reflect on this powerful day, we remain dedicated to advancing gender equality and justice for all, inspired by the strength and contributions of women across the globe.

On March 1, 2024, the Magway Region Human Rights Network (MHRN) and its partners, with support from the New Myanmar Foundation, launched a compelling online campaign in honor of Zero Discrimination Day, centered around the theme “To Protect Everyone’s Health, To Protect Everyone’s Rights.” Despite being held virtually, the campaign made a powerful impact, emphasizing the inseparable link between health and human rights. 

The event opened with remarks from a representative, stressing the urgent need to combat all forms of discrimination, whether based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or disability. Participants showed their solidarity by updating their profiles, creating a visual statement of their dedication to equality. The campaign’s success was marked by a shared commitment to building a world where everyone’s rights and dignity are respected. Moving forward, MHRN and its partners remain dedicated to advancing equality and inclusivity, inspired by the momentum and impact of this transformative campaign.
